Story

Hi everyone,

Some of you may already know but for those of you who don’t, I have organised a charity Bike ride event in September to raise money and awareness for Urology.

My mum has been extremely unwell for the past 11 years but last year she was given the opportunity to undergo surgery that is only offered to a selected few due to it being such a specialist procedure. My mum had the Neobladder procedure in September 2017 which has given her the ability to live more comfortably with this newly created bladder. A Neobladder procedure is when a diseased or malfunctioning bladder is completely removed and is replaced by a new or “neo” bladder. This is an extremely complex internal reconstructive operation and recovery can take up to a year.

My mum was in critical care for a number of days after the operation and the nurses overseeing her recovery were absolutely fantastic. Seeing what my mum went through made me realise just how strong she was. With this, one year on from her procedure, a group of us shall be cycling approximately 90 miles from University College London Hospital (where the operation took place) and finishing at The Band Stand in Broadstairs.

Any support you can offer would be much appreciated either by waving us along at some point on the route, meeting us at the finish point or by kindly donating.

All donations will be put towards Urology and helping those with this disease overcome the pain with life changing support and operations. On average this procedure costs £25,000, and we would like to raise a minimum of £5,000 to put towards this.

Alternatively, if you fancy a challenge and want to join the ever growing team, then please do get in touch.

So wish us luck and thank you for taking the time to read this post and for offering your support. From myself and all the riders and most importantly, my brave mum, thank you. x
