    Story

    ABOUT ME
Each year I organise a fundraiser for a chosen charity and this year I have decided to raise money for the North West Blood Bikes charity. I usually do something through music to raise money for a chosen charity, however this year I have decided to do something more challenging.

I have decided that I am going to do a sponsored run, however not just any normal run. I will be running a distance of 60K! The reason I have decided to do this is because not only does it help raise money for a brilliant cause, but it is also something that will be physically and mentally challenging for me.

WHO ARE THE NORTH WEST BLOOD BIKES?
North West Blood Bikes are volunteers who ride motorcycles to collect and deliver urgently needed whole blood, platelets, samples for analysis, medication, patient notes, small medical instruments, donor breast milk and other essentials between NHS hospitals without charging the hospitals.

With the exception of delivering Donor Breast Milk during daytime hours, they only operate out of normal working hours, when the NHS transport staff is unavailable, mainly through the night and 24 hours at weekends and Bank Holidays.

    HOW DO THEY DO IT?
Controllers work from home using their own phone and computer to receive calls, then dispatch a rider. Many riders use their own bikes, or cars if the weather is so bad that a bike would be dangerous. All our Riders undergo assessment rides by professional motorcycle instructors before they can ride for North West Blood Bikes.

They have a fleet of 12 liveried (hi viz) bikes equipped with emergency lights and sirens and all riders who ride these bikes must be advanced qualified riders, but then must undergo specialist training to use the emergency equipment.
