I've raised £3000 to provide access to appropriate healthcare for children and adults who suffer from Albinism in Atakpamé, Togo.

In August 2018, I will attempt to complete the national "3 Peaks Challenge" in order to fundraise for an amazing group of people that I met whilst volunteering in Togo - The Atakpamé Centre for Persons with Albinism (Cas Social Albinos Enfants Adultes)
Albinism is a genetic condition which causes a lack of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. Skin and eyes become extremely sensitive to sunlight, resulting in very poor vision and high exposure to skin cancer for people who suffer from it. Albinos in Togo not only suffer health problems, but also huge problems of discrimination because of their white skin. Myths connecting Albinism with witchcraft are the source of much marginalisation of Albinos in many African countries including Togo. As a result, kids with albinism often have a tough time at school and their education is affected whilst young adults struggle to find employment because of their condition.
Any money raised will go towards providing appropriate healthcare products such as suncream, hats, sunglasses and access to a dermatologist and an ophthalmologist for the 215 members of the centre. This will make daily life much easier for the people who suffer from this disease.
