Story

Im doing a fundraiser in memory of my dad, Gerald 'The Butcher" Evans, who sadly passed away a year ago today (16th October 2021). All funds raised will be split between GTBAL and Ward 12 at Withybush.

Heres a little bit about me, and why I have chosen to complete 30 cold water swims, starting Sunday October 17th 2021.

Over the last 2 years, I have been hit with a life changing illness, as well as having spinal surgery and the loss of our amazing Dad. I think the grief has been my biggest challenge yet. Through my grief, I had discovered cold water swimming, with the most amazing group of people, who go by 'The Blue Tits". It has enabled me to keep focused and kept by head above water, so to speak, with the added bonus of helping to reduce the severe headaches and pain I have on a daily basis.

The challenge will be extra difficult for me, as I have never swam in the winter, as well as having more spinal surgery in the coming weeks. The swims will be taking place throughout my recovery, which will make it extra tough.

I have chosen to fundraise for GTBAL, a mental health organisation in Haverfordwest, which provides free and accessible counselling for the community, as well as other avenues of mental health support. The other half of the funds raised, will go to Ward 12 at Withybush hospital, who looked after Dad on more than one occasion and put up with his constant jokes and antics. They are all amazing.

Please support me in any way you can, whether that be joining me on the swims, sharing my fundraiser or donating through my just giving.

Most of my swims will be at Broad haven (North) at 18:30, but I'm hoping to 'double dip' in other places, which I will post about regularly.

My first swim will be at Little Haven, on Sunday 17th October 2021 at 17:30, hope to see you all there.
