Story
Hi everyone,
We are fundraising to try to help with the PPE shortages faced by the UK healthcare system. As with so many of you, I was frustrated to have so little impact when some of my friends are on the front line as part of the NHS.
As a response, I have been working with Phil Hall, the head of Product Design at my old school in Windsor. He has been pioneering the use of 3d printing in state schools for many years now and has re-purposed the existing printers to create protective masks.
Our current situation is that we have:
- 3 printers running every day and being operated by Phil, printing batches of approved mask designs
- A distribution method in place
- Refined the design and production process to be able to create multiple masks in one batch
- Crucially, and the reason for this fundraiser, is we have the ability to scale
- We have an offer of heavily discounted printers, down from GBP4,500 to GBP1,800 for the latest MakerBot model, this includes GBP300 worth of material
We are now fundraising to see how many printers we can get operational and how many masks we can get printed each day. As we know there is almost endless demand for PPE in the UK, so this really can be about how much difference we can make.
I really hope that as many of you as possible can get behind this, and can support our friends and family who are on the front line, risking their own lives day in day out.
