6 Mates. 3 Peaks. 2 Causes.
Ryan Ash Luke Lewis Josh Brad
In September, the six of us are taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge—climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in 24 hours. We are pushing ourselves well out of our comfort zones to raise money and awareness for two charities that mean the world to our families: Sands and Headway.
Here are our stories and why we are taking on this challenge:
Raising Money for Sands (Luke's Story)
My names Luke and I’m doing the 3 peak challenge to raise awareness for a charity called Sands this is close to home as my mum unfortunately experienced this here’s the story : At our 20-week pregnancy scan, our world changed forever. We were given the heartbreaking news that something wasn’t right, and a week later a further scan confirmed that our baby boy had several serious conditions, including his intestines developing outside of his body, a curved spine, and Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18).
Just one week later, I gave birth to our beautiful son, Billy. Although our time with him was far too short, he will always be loved, cherished, and remembered.
We are raising money for Sands, the baby loss charity, to help support the incredible work they do for families facing the unimaginable heartbreak of losing a baby. Their support means so much to parents during the darkest moments of their lives, and we hope that by raising funds in Billy’s memory, we can help other families receive the care and compassion they deserve.
Thank you so much for your kindness, support, and any donation, no matter how big or small. It truly means the world to us.
Raising Money for Headway (Ash's Story)
I’m taking part in a 3 peaks challenge in September. I’ll be climbing 3 mountains in 24 hours to raise money for headway - the brain injury association.
This is really important to me (Ash) and my family. In 2024 my mother in law almost lost her life to a fast growing brain abscess. Her whole life turned upside down in a split second. She experienced numbness down her left side meaning she couldn’t walk and lost all independence. She had a craniotomy surgery to remove the brain abscess but the journey didn’t stop there. After a very long stay in hospital, my mother in law spent the next 2 years rebuilding her life. Constant physiotherapy, appointments, scans, monitoring, medication, side effects. She still experiences extreme fatigue, poor memory, weak left side/pins and needles, migraines and now has epilepsy as a result of the swelling and tissue damage to her brain from the abscess. This has been an incredibly difficult time for her, physically and emotionally.
Headway helps people affected by brain injury, including survivors and their families. They offer advice, guidance, counselling, financial support, community rehabilitation, respite and education courses and so much more.
Headway supported my mother in law and helped get her through a really difficult time. They offered practical and emotional support and we will all be forever grateful to them. At a time where we all felt lost and the future felt uncertain, headway provided so much reassurance and guidance.
I think it’s important to give back and I can’t put into words how much this charity helped our family. I’d love to raise money for Headway and help them to continue helping others.
every year around 350,000 people are admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury. That's one every 90 seconds.
I’d appreciate any donations. I have never done anything like this before, I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone and putting myself through something really challenging and testing. All for an amazing cause!
Thank you for all your support, donations, and shares!
