Story

Myself and 3 of my friends - Kish, Mathu and Sobi will be undertaking the UK 3 peaks challenge on Friday the 13th of June whereby we reach the highest mountain peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours to fundraise for the underprivileged Tamils in Sri Lanka. We will be sending all proceeds to the Living Word Missionary Church UK (LWMC UK) Charity that aims to support access to healthcare for Tamils who are deprived of it. Please see below for our reason for doing this.

The lack of adequate healthcare infrastructure in Tamil Eelam has heavily affected healthcare delivery. Many hospitals and clinics in Tamil Eelam suffer from a lack of essential medical equipment, supplies, and qualified personnel, leading to substandard healthcare services.

Tamil Eelam refers to an independent state in the Northern and Eastern parts of Sri Lanka. The fallout from the Sri Lankan Civil War Post 2000s have led to health inequalities for the Tamil community such as neonatal mortality, disability as well as mental health problems such as depression and anxiety among other health conditions.

The money that we raise will help to fund medical equipment (e.g. Automatic BP Meter, Weighing Scale, Vitals Monitor, Blood sugar monitor, medications etc. that will allow doctors / healthcare staff perform general health check ups. We will need around £3,500 to house a temporary medical camp which will be used for non-communicable disease screening and health check ups, issue free basic medications and will refer patients to local hospitals if specialist care is required. This camp will typically see 250 to 400 patients a day which would be amazing in improving the access to the services for those who need it the most.
