Story

Hi Everyone!

As I’m sure a lot of you are aware, my dad Neal had a life changing accident in July 2017. As a result he sustained a serious spinal cord injury which has left him paralysed from the chest down.

As you can imagine the last two years have been very difficult, however, our family have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of friends, family, customers and even strangers!

My dad has been attending physiotherapy sessions at NeuroKinex in Gatwick. This is a specialist neurological rehabilitation centre where he has one hour of activity-based rehab and one hour of electronic stimulation per week. This has shown some promising results, improving his strength, return a degree of movement and sensation and ultimately giving him back some independence. Therefore, we are keen for him to continue with these sessions.

Because my dad loves being outdoors and had always been so active I wanted to do some fundraising to reflect this.

On that note…after a few glasses of wine, undisclosed amounts of gin and potentially some Brazilian liquor I decided it would be a great idea to sign myself up to the National Three Peaks Challenge in September. Obviously, I wasn’t going to do this alone so have roped my friend Lisa in to doing it with me.

The challenge involves climbing three mountains, in three countries, aiming to complete this in 24 hours…easy right?!

For those of you that know Lisa and I, you’ll know we prefer wine and cheese to walking and outdoor wees…but we’re going to give it our best shot!

Obviously, we’d like to raise as much money as possible, but ideally enough to pay for ten physio sessions, which is £1890. We would also like to make a donate to NeuroKinex’s own charitable foundation which funds sessions for those that wouldn’t otherwise be able to access this amazing resource.

Clearly our fitness levels leave much to be desired, so we have started training and will be creating a Facebook page for you to follow our sweaty attempt as well as some clips of my dad at his physio sessions!

We can guarantee much blood, sweat and tears, but ultimately hope for success!

We would be so grateful for any support, advice or donation.

We hope you enjoy watching our struggles!
