400km in one day/ An AED for life
On 15th June I am attempting to cycle 400km in one day.
This will involve a 4am start and home before midnight all going well! I am raising money to fund an AED for the Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Leith, Edinburgh where our office is based.
An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) An AED is a sophisticated, reliable, safe, computerised device that delivers electric shocks to a casualty in cardiac arrest when the ECG rhythm is one that is likely to respond to a shock. St John Ambulance report that survival rates are as high as 74% with fast response times often possible when an AED is nearby. This compares to a 15 % likely hood of resuscitation by manual CPR.
If you look at the distribution of AEDs on the map of Edinburgh, Leith, unlike other areas of Edinburgh, has very few AED locations. The Drill Hall provides community resources and spaces including Cafe, Performance, Exhibition and creative workspaces and is a very suitable location for the area. Calum Duncan Architects are located within the Drill Hall and we feel this is a simple but important anomaly which can be corrected for the benefit of the local community and visitors to the space.
I would fantastic if you would give a lot, or a lot of support.
