'These children live in shacks and then they have to come to school in a 'shack' .. how can they learn that things can be better?' These were the words spoken by the inspirational headmaster , Mike , as we stood on the first floor of the only classroom building over looking the town of Alexandra. As far as the eye could see, every square inch of land was taken up by ' houses' . And it was these words that have inspired us to help make a difference in this community . We have had the priviledge of helping local individuals during our stay but we know the value of building and inspiring a community, and we know that you as our friends will feel the same way too.
Below is an extract from Iphuteng Primary's website which explains their situation and needs ..
'This year we have to provide quality education to 1475 learners accommodated in 22 mortar and bricks classrooms and 8 temporary structures. We are a no fee paying school and we are depending on the ring fenced annual grant from the Government. The amounts received are often not sufficient to purchase the larger items required. We therefore rely on the generosity of the active citizens of the universe to assist us.

We would love to achieve all the things on this wish list but if we only manage to raise money for one of them then we have achieved more than we ever hoped we could.
