Story

Thank you for visiting and giving this page your time.

In October 2016, my good friend Mark Robson was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive mutation of metastatic bowel cancer known as Dukes C.

The disease spread to Mark's lymph nodes which meant the cancer travelled throughout his body at an alarming rate.

Needless to say, this come as a terrible shock to Mark and his family; his friends, colleagues and to everyone who loved him.

I entered 2017's Great South Run in mid April and intended to run the race to raise money for Mark's wife and 3 children. My initial ideas were to organise a trip to Disney land or maybe even split whatever I could raise 3 ways and invest it in trust funds for the kids to have when they reached a certain age.

I held on to the hope that Mark would be there in October to see me cross the finish line but on the 23rd May 2017, he tragically passed away at home after a long and brave battle against this evil disease. He was surrounded by those who loved him most.

It has been and continues to be a rough road riddled with dark and forgettable days but there were some special days amidst the bad: In mid December, Mark and Kelly were married, they also had a successful open mic charity event thrown in their honour and hosted a beautiful wedding reception in March.

Mark was a unique and genuine character who had an ability to make you laugh and put a smile on your face even if it was the last thing in the world you wanted to do. A gift that he carried with him until the end.

He will never be forgotten.

So, I will now be running The Great South in memory of Mark but with the same intentions regarding whatever money can be raised for his family: for Kelly, Skye, Heath, Logan, Pete and Sally.

So please feel free to donate as little or as much as you'd like and, by all means, come and watch me struggle around the 10 mile circuit. I'm sure Mark would've found it hilarious.

Thank you again.

All the best,

Jack.
