Story

Trehafod Shotokan Karate Club (TSKC) was founded in 2011. The club is totally non-profit and set up to teach karate in the community. Karate offers endless benefits to learners. The discipline itself brings many new advantages; it encourages aptitude and a sharp coordination of the mind and body. Learning Karate is a way of building physical fitness; providing whole body conditioning and improves self-confidence and overall wellbeing in addition to being a great way to relieve stress.

TSKC welcomes anyone who wants to train from novice white belts to advanced black belts. Many families train together in the club, members ages ranging from 6 - 60+. Approximately 400 members train in the club formulating one big karate family.

On the 5th of January 2019; TSKC’s 4th dan black belt Gavin Maddern will finish his night shift at 4am and travel to North Wales to climb Snowdon Mountain without sleep in order to fundraise for TSKC. All monies raised will help towards the running costs and to sustain the karate club for the future.

Snowdon Mountain is 3,560 feet high and is a tough mountain to climb in winter. The weather is harsh with strong winds, sub-zero temperatures and blizzards par for the course. Visibility can be limited making navigation challenging. Snow and ice can often cover the paths, not only obscuring the way but forming potentially hazardous slippery slopes with risks of avalanches. This challenge is not for the faint hearted, it requires endurance, skill, knowledge and awareness that Gavin will have acquired during his career in the army and from decades of karate training.

Please support Gavin by sponsoring this incredibly tough fundraiser in order to help sustain Trehafod Shotokan Karate Club.

Good Luck Gavin from everyone at TSKC! Oss
