To aid the funding for the generator overhaul in 50027 based at The Watercress Line.
It‘s not just the overhaul of the gen, also to consider is crane hire, transport to the factory, engine mounts, oil and filter change, internal cleaning and painting costs etc.

21 days agoToday I had the pleasure of visiting the company doing the main gen on Lion. Here’s a few photos I took of it in pieces showing the progress of the cleaning process. Two people have now said it was one of the dirtiest gens they’d seen so it comes as no surprise that it needed 4 dips into a cleaner to get a reading. All the brush boxes have been cleaned up along with new PTFE insulators. Unfortunately it will require a new bearing. It’s 35 odd years old, 30 with the stop start nature of preservation has take its toll so it’s for the best.
