Story
2019 is the 50th anniversary of the Riding for the Disabled Association. Many of you will know the challenges that Eleanor has been through during her life but finding the Dukeries RDA 18 months ago has really helped her. She loves the horses, she loves everyone that she meets there and the smiles and laughter you get from her when she is there light up even the dullest of days.
It is a small group - only five horses and ponies - run by a small but very caring and enthusiastic team. They give their time to enrich the lives of others so I wanted to do something in return...
Those who know me will know that I am no runner - true I did a 10k run last summer but that was mainly for the cider and I did a half-marathon when I was 17 but that was more years ago than I care to remember so I am not sure it counts anymore. Anyway, in honour of the 50th anniversary I decided that I would 'run 50k for the RDA'. Then, somewhere along the way, I decided that I would 'run 50k in just one day for the RDA' so that is what I am doing.
On Saturday May 11th Blinny and I will be running the Dukeries 30 Mile race. I know that technically it is just short of 50k and also that I won't be running all of it but it is as close to 'running 50k in just one day' that I will ever get!!!
Anything you can give to this great cause will be appreciated. They exist on such a little that genuinely anything will make a huge difference - and knowing that I am giving something back will help to get me round.

4 years agoSo it wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty but I am proud to say that we completed it and I can now call myself an ultra-marathon runner. Now all I have to do is to work out how on earth I am going to get back downstairs again... Thank you again all of you for your support - and to June for waving us off and Kirsty for being there for us at the end - we really do appreciate it xx

4 years agoSo we are into the last week, the one my training plan calls 'taper week'. I've worked out that in the last few months I've done 299 miles of training which basically equates to three seasons of criminal minds, all five Jurassic Park / World films and Mary Poppins!! I have even managed one run out in the big wide world but that had hills so I didn't do that again... So anyway taper week, apparently means rest up, eat pasta and keep fingers crossed that it will be dry. Huge thanks for all your support and hopefully see you on the other side.

4 years agoSo the training slowed slightly (!) over Easter but am back to it again this week - if only to work off all the cake I've consumed. Huge thanks to everyone who has donated so far, I've had to put my target up again so thank you very much. Just to point out that my big brother has not actually known me for 47 years, he neglected to subtract the time before I was born, not that it is important obviously but just wanted to clear it up :-) Anyway, lunch in a bit and an episode of Criminal Minds (aka 3.5 miles) is calling...

Eleanor tells me about what she gets up to on Dinkie every weekend - you can see her face light up as she talks about it. Fantastic achievement, huge congratulations!
