5 do 5 Windermere Challenge 2022 In memory of Amanda Wilson
On Saturday 7th May 2022, we will be completing a unique challenge in and around Windermere. We are undertaking this challenge in memory of our dear friend, Amanda Wilson, by running, dragon boat paddling, sailing, swimming and walking around Amanda’s beloved Windermere with the aim of raising funds and awareness for three special charities.
We all first met 20 years ago when our sons started school and quickly formed a special bond. Amanda was a fantastic mother to her five boys. Her heart was big, smile cheeky and was always there for us.
Amanda was a keen sailor, Windermere was very close to her heart. She was chief instructor, and commodore of Royal Windermere Yacht Club. She was also an instructor and volunteer at Blackwell Sailing, Bowness, where her passion and enthusiasm helped local people with disabilities to sail.
Our challenge will involve five friends, Julie, Sarah, Julie, Lynn and Lisa, completing five activities in and around Windermere. We will run from Low Wray eastwards to Low Wood Marina. Then dragon boat to Royal Windermere Yacht Club, Bowness. Transfer to a yacht and sail to Fell Foot Park. Swim from Fell Foot to Newby Bridge and finally walk back up to Low Wray where we started.
Our three chosen charities were close to Amanda’s heart - and are close to ours. Blackwell Sailing, CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria, and Paddlers for Life, a charity that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of anyone who has an experience of cancer, especially breast cancer.
We would like to say a huge thank you to our sponsors, Ginger Bakers and Voom Nutrition, who will be helping fuel us during our challenge. To Paddlers for Life for allowing us to use their dragon boat, and Royal Windermere Yacht Club for their support.
Thank you very much for your support in raising funds and awareness for these important causes.
