Story

A huge explosion shook the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday 4th August. Residents of Beirut woke to destroyed buildings and streets buried in rubble after this massive blast. Not only have over a hundred people died as a result and thousands more injured, but Beirut’s port has been completely destroyed - this is a crippling blow to a country that is already reeling from a political and financial crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s all very well sending well wishes and prayers, but it's time to take action. We’ve come together as students to start a challenge to try to both raise awareness and money for Beirut - all you have to do is:

1. Run 5K

2. Donate to the fundraiser.

3. Share so that as many people take part as possible.

We have chosen two charities to donate to:

1. The Lebanese Red Cross - they have done incredible work for decades, and are currently on the ground saving hundreds from the rubble, providing transportation via their ambulance services, and providing life-saving emergency services in local hospitals.

2. Impact Lebanon - they are a non-profit organisation that hope to bring communities together to pursue initiatives that deliver impact for Lebanon. Currently, they have started a Disaster Relief Fund and are coordinating with NGOs on the ground who most urgently need funds and help.

Thank you all so much for your help.
