Alex Glover, Oliver Parkes, Mike Penn and Stephen Murtagh Burns are attempting to complete the David Goggins 4 x 4 x 48 Challenge. At 4am Saturday 6th March we will begin running 4 miles (6.5km) every 4 hours for 48 hours finishing with our final run on Monday at 12am. We will be running 44 miles (71km) in two days which is the equivalent to just under 2 marathons on very minimal sleep. The challenge was concieved by David Goggins who is an Ultra runner from USA, and is a worldwide charity running challenge taking place on the weekend of Friday 5th March.

We will be starting early 04:00 Saturday morning and the final leg will be 00:00 Monday morning.

All three of us have varied fitness levels and with none of us ever running a marathon before this is sure to be a big test both mentally and physically .

We are raising money for our cousins baby boy Fletcher who was diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) at 13 months old in October 2020.

SMA affects the lower motor neurones found in the spinal cords. This means Fletchers nerve cells have started to deteriorate restricting the delivery of signals from the brain to his muscles, making movement difficult causing progressive muscle weakness and loss of movement. This will affect his crawling and walking ability, arm, hand, head and neck movement, breathing and swallowing.

Fletcher's Mum, Dad and family are trying to raise as much funds as possible to contribute towards equipment, treatments, physiotherapy and home modifications. All funds raised from our challenge will go directly to the family to provide Fletcher with all the support and opportunities to live a long and fulfilling life.
