Story
Saving Lives: Support Our Defibrillator Campaign - 7th Lichfield Scout Group
I would like your support to purchase a defibrillator for our scout hut.
I recently witnessed a stranger collapse due to a sudden heart attack while on holiday in Spain. Thanks to my training as a volunteer Scout Leader, I was able to help initiate CPR, sustaining the man's life until the arrival of a police car equipped with a defibrillator. This experience made me think about what would happen if a similar medical emergency occurred during one of our scout meetings or camps.
Our scout hut is used almost every day, our leaders are trained in CPR and in the use of a defibrillator. However the closest defibrillator to the scout hut is at least 15 minutes away and when we are on a camp site we are often much further away. If someone has a heart-attack time is of the essence and every minute without oxygen reduces survival chances by 10%. Starting CPR is crucial, but having immediate access to a defibrillator can be the decisive factor that saves a life.
This is why I have decided to raise funds to purchase a defibrillator for our scout hut and to take with us when we are away on camp. By having this vital device on hand, we can ensure that our scouts, volunteers, and community members have the best chance of surviving a sudden cardiac event.
Every donation you make will be paid to the 7th Lichfield Scout Group for the sole purpose of acquiring and maintaining one or more defibrillators. In the event that we exceed our fundraising goal, the surplus funds will be used to provide CPR training for our volunteers and members of the local community surrounding our scout hut.
Together, we can help save lives.
Your support, whether big or small, is invaluable.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Together, we can make our scout hut a safer place and provide a vital resource to the community.
Thank you,
Richard

10 months agoThank you to everyone that has supported my fundraiser. We have achieved our initial objective and now have a defibrillator and a training unit for use inside the Scout Hut. We will be launching another fundraising appeal in due course to complete the plan by installing an external unit that is available 24/7 by the local community.

1 year agoHi, I am raising this money under my own name, rather than directly through the scout group. I am doing this for two reasons: firstly because I am scratching a personal itch to do something positive following the incident in Spain and secondly because we do not generally appeal for public donations for the Scouts so it is easier to do it myself. I will pay every penny raised to the scout group as a donation to be used to buy and maintain the defibs.
