Story
9 men...9 bikes...9 days...957 miles!
On August 24th 2021, nine men from Devon are going to embark on a grueling test of fitness and endurance, by riding from John O'Groats to Lands End (JOGLE) in 9 days!
The newly formed team, now known as the 'Jogle9ers', are predominately new to riding on the road. As a group, they aim to raise £9,999, which is to be split between their four chosen charities - Exeter Stoma Nurses, Cancer Research UK, Children's Hospice South West and Beat eating disorders.
Who are they?
Before the challenge was mentioned, only ONE of the nine riders owned a road bike...the others were yet to experience a ride in the saddle! So it's safe to say that they've jumped in at the deep end! What could possibly go wrong....
The riders; Jevon Astley-Jones, Mike Darch, Rory Honeychurch, Spencer Lane, Sam Meadham, Sam Richardson, Adam Rutter, Brendan Spokes and Andrew Thomson.
Why are they doing it?
At an individual level, every rider has their own reasons as to why they have agreed to take on the challenge (these will be shared on the teams social channels in the lead up), but as is the case with these things, one person has an idea / desire and before you know it, a whats app group is created and a date is set!
Chosen Charities
Exeter Stoma Nurses
Raising money for the Exeter Stoma Nurses sits personally with me after receiving amazing care from them in December 2020 after stoma surgery. The JOGLE ride was born in hospital whilst recovering - Spencer Lane
Cancer Research UK - 1 in 2 people will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime. As a group, we have all been affected by this stat and whilst the search for a cure continues, we want to help where we can.
Children's Hospice South West - Providing hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their whole family. Respite and short breaks, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care at three wonderful children's hospices; Little Bridges House in Devon, Charlton Farm in Somerset and Little Harbour in Cornwall.
Beat - Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses that can affect anyone at any time. They often thrive in secrecy so it is important to spot symptoms and get professional help as soon as possible. Your generous donation makes it possible for Beat to provide a helpline service 365 days a year to ensure people who suffer from eating disorders, are not alone.
When are they doing it?
The boys will start at John O'Groats on August 24th and aim to arrive in Lands End on September 1st for a well earned pint and pasty!
How can you follow their journey?
In the lead up to the event, the team will be sharing rider bios, charity stories and updates on their training through their Facebook and Instagram accounts @jogle9ers. Be sure to give them a follow!
RIDE ON!
