    What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

    Story

Gladys Betty Anyango had retired and returned to Kenya to care for her elderly mother and with her free time, dedicate herself to her passion to educate and care for as many widows and orphans as she could through education, feeding and health. The reality on the ground was challenging as anticipated but the loops of bureaucracy and corruption eventually took a toll on her.
On 23 October, before her 65th birthday on the 30th of October Betty was admitted into hospital in Nairobi with pneumonia and possible renal failure. We were immediately faced with medical system where hospital care in Kenya has to be paid for with an upfront deposit before admission, the attending doctor’s fees and clearing the accrued bill before any discharge. We have already raised some funds by clearing our entire savings to cover the cost of admissions, scans and preliminary tests and treatment. Unfortunately treating her damaged liver is going to cost me (her only daughter) thousands of pounds that we just don’t have.
This has come as a horrendous shock and we are trying to raise enough funding to get me to Kenya to be by her as well as pay the accruing medical bill. Having to unfortunately balance between having funds for treatment and being there with Betty has been a painful experience and a living nightmare for us. Any donations however big or small (it all counts) will be greatly appreciated. All surplus donation will be given to charity. Thanks for reading this and choosing to take this journey with us.

      Update from the Page owner

Thank you all for the support you have given. Unfortunately, mum sadly passed away. As we grieve, please remember those like ourselves who have loved ones battling through various ailments under broken systems that continue to fail the living due to lack of adequate facilities and others for inability to get the treatments they deserve due to lack of funds. We were fortunate to have had the mother we had and her memory and legacy will forever remain with us. In God we trust and into His arms we commit her soul to rest. Achieng

Today, Betty's breathing has normalised and a CT scan has been requested. Thank you for the 3% donation here to date and also those that have donated offline which has helped pay for the CT scan that will hopefully be done tomorrow. We keep praying and thanks also for the positive messages of support. A luta continua! Achiengxx
