    Story

We are "African Wildlife Solutions", part of "Green Rural African Development International". We are an NGO and we work at resolving conflicts between humans and wildlife so BOTH can live decent lives.
One of our core beliefs is that the health and security of the National Park ecosystems are directly linked to the health and security of the people living around the Park. Conserving humans and wildlife are of equal importance!

Some of our most important conservation work is done outside the Parks, in communities and villages. It has been validated by the Zambian government and its Department of National Parks and Wildlife.

Luchena community is a small, remote collection of villages on the southern border of Kafue National Park in Zambia. Every year, elephants pass through the communities eating all the crops from maize to mangoes leaving the farmers with no product to sell and provide for their families.

These huge animals can also pose a threat to life and can cause poverty and unrest in the communities.

But the African elephant is also under extreme pressure right now. Estimates from 2013/14 suggest that the African elephant will become extinct in the wild in the next 15 years.... and human/elephant conflict is killing nearly as many as ivory poaching.

"To lose elephants from our world would be to lose part of our global heritage."

By using our tried and tested elephant deterrent systems we can protect the Luchena crops and not harm a single elephant doing it. Please help us raise the money needed to protect Luchena and its' elephants.

AWS and GRAD's vision is to eradicate Human Wildlife Conflict, especially that concerning elephants and become the principal engine of sustainable development in the region.

Thanks to those people who have donated so far and their kind messages. We have a TENTH of the cash we need so anyone who can share the post and encourage donations would be welcomed! This system really DOES make a difference, not just to thousands of community dwellers but those amazing elephants who get to eat without being threatened...

This message from one of our wonderful donors "I've seen a solar powered fencing system in Sioma, beautiful veggie garden on the one side along the Zambezi, National Park on the other side. Thanks for doing this!" Well Felicitas...that is one of our systems so THANK you for letting the world know our system really does work!!

I do hope the lack of support from all the people who have 'liked' but not donated through facebook doesn't dampen your enthusiasm for this amazing scheme - keep up the good work
