The 6.6 magnitudo earthquake occurred on the 30th of October was the most powerful to hit Italy since 1980, striking a blow to Central regions just days after they were hit by two other quakes. It frightened and displaced thousands of already-jittery residents who have seen the ancient structures and walls in their towns, including the San Benedetto basilica in Norcia crumble into heaps on the street. Lots of historical buildings and sights have been severely damaged and Regional officials warned that the multiple earthquakes could lead to 100,000 residents being displaced.

One option is to send money to the Civil Department, a Government Institution, which is organising a national fundraising.

Another option is to support a couple of friends from Visso, a small town that sustained substantial damage in the quake. The project is directly linked to Visso's library, which hosted precious documents and manuscripts of the poet Leopardi’s such as L’ Infinito. Our friends Silvia and Francesca want to raise money to buy a wooden house to host the library collection. The project has been named "Futuro Infinito" [infinite future] - from Leopard's words- with the hope that our magnificent culture will help people reconstruct their identities, lands and lives.

Every help to let the beauty of our country flourish again is warmly appreciated.

Thanks a lot everyone,

PS: We are thinking about organising an event when fundings are ready to thank all of you. If you are interested, have any suggestion or want to know more about Futuro Infinito, please let us know by mailing to a.panicacci@mail.bbk.ac.uk.
