Story

Alex Harrison, a very special girl full of character who lived her life to the full, died on 4th July of a brain tumour, just a couple of weeks after her 13th birthday. Following six years of brain operations, chemo and radiotherapy, Alex’s family has not only had to deal with the pain and misery of watching their child go through countless medical traumas, they have had to face significant financial challenges.

Whilst Kathryn and Paul would never ask for financial help, we know the most practical and effective way we can support them is to give generously, so that they can take some time out to rest, regroup and find a way forward to rebuild their lives.

As Alex’s main carer, Kathryn’s ability to work has been significantly reduced over the last six years as she needed to be around to support Alex on a daily basis. This included taking her to hundreds of medical appointments, spending hours in hospital waiting rooms and dropping everything at short notice when Alex was unwell.

As Kathryn is self-employed, this has had a huge financial impact on the family. It also means her career has effectively been put on hold for six years which will take time to rebuild. The family have missed out on so many things over the last six years , and now they want to rebuild their lives and make some happier memories with their son, James.

Many in our community and followers of the Facebook page, “Alex and the Unicorns“ have been asking how they can continue to support the family. There will be many opportunities in the future to fund raise for the family’s chosen charities who have helped them on this horrendous journey, but for now, our priority is to help the family directly.

Thank you in advance - your contribution, whether large or small, will make a massive difference and show the support they have in our lovely community.
