Story
This photo is from the day after I was advised to switch off Al's machines as there was no hope and nothing would ever work again. Over the next few days I had to tell the children that their Dad wasn't going to survive and told friends and family to come and say goodbye. That weekend they moved him over and let me get on the bed with him to have one last cuddle. I laid there and begged him to give me a sign on what he wanted me to do. I told him if he wanted to die I understood but if he wanted me to fight for him I would. I told him how much I loved him and talked about all the things that we have planned for when he left the army. I sobbed over him for about an hour before I had to leave him. I didn't know that night if I would be called back or if he would make it to the morning. As I got in the cab, I zoned out from the driver talking and could just hear "say you won't let go" on the radio. I didn't know who sung it and I didn't know what the song was. Turned out to be James Arthur's new song. That was my sign to fight for him. Al knew different to what the doctors were telling me and started to get better. He started to open just one eye ever so slightly. His infection markers started to improve and he started needing less machines. Although still not fully conscious he was more and more aware of me being there with him. Thats when the next part of his journey began. Al still has a huge road ahead of him in terms of his neuro rehabilitation and I want to make sure that he gets the best that I can for someone in his situation. Due to his tracheostomy there are limited rehabilitation units that will take him. We are also raising money for Cancer Research. People in this group have been dealt the Cancer card for their loved ones. Some have survived and some have sadly passed. It's also affecting people in the group directly now. With money and research we know that they will be able find a cure for all cancers and save everyone. Thank you xxxx
