Story
Andrew 46 years old left the Navy after completing 24 year's service in the military to spend more time with his wife Sharon and their little one.
Andrew found himself an amazing job as a RME working for Amazon, all was going well and he was enjoying seeing his family every day.
Andrew then started getting headaches and was sleeping longer then usual and was not himself. In May 2023 Andrew had a CT & MRI scan and received the most devastating news. Andrew was diagnosed with a inoperable butterfly glioblastoma stage 4 and was given 3-4 months without treatment. Andrew was told the tumour was too large for radiotherapy and was started on Lomustine, after 3 rounds of chemotherapy an MRI scan was taken and the results were amazing as the tumour had shrunk by 50% and this gave him a window to have radiotherapy, Andrew had 15 rounds of radiotherapy whilst continuing with the Lomustine. Another scan was taken in December 2023 and showed the tumour had shrunk further.
A review scan was taken in February 2024 and has now show the tumour has started growing again and the Lomustine is no longer working, our oncologists has suggested another chemotherapy drug called Carboplatin and a drug called Avastin.
Andrew's problem is that the tumour has started to grow out from the original tumour in an area not seen on previous scans and recommended that we also try a drug that will target the tumours blood supply.
There is however some hope, which is why we are reaching out for your help. There is drug available called Avastin that will target the tumour, although this is not available via the NHS. The cost of this is £1200 every 3 weeks.
We have researched a number of alternative therapies, none which are available on the NHS. Treatments are very limited on the NHS for Glioblastoma.
As I am sure you can appreciate, this is a terrible situation for the our family to be faced with.
