My friend's son-10yrs old Martin Malinov, born 2005, with a rear inherited blood disorder – Thalassemia is currently hospitalised in Bambino Gesu Hospital in Rome – Italy.
Martin’s life depends on the regular blood transfusions and expensive medicines. As a result of these blood transfusions and the deficiency of some of the medicines, Martin’s organs are getting damaged. In 2014 he had to undergo an operation and had his spleen removed.
To avoid further complications, his doctors - specialists from Macedonia have referred him for an operation in Italy where Martin should have a transplant of bone marrow. As this is a complex procedure, Martin and his mum need to remain in Italy for a minimum of a year, and possibly his father too if chosen to be the donor.
Martin’s mum is unemployed due to his health state and his parents cannot cover the expenses for the upcoming procedure, necessary medications and the stay in Rome. Macedonian Department of Health will cover half of the 150,000€. However, even the sale of their private flat is not sufficient to cover the balance of this high-cost operation .
