    Story

We're Anne's Prosecco Pedallers - a group of parents (of a certain age!) doing a sponsored cycle from Cullen to Elgin to raise money for our dear friend Anne.

We're not professionals - to be honest, the only cycling we do is recycling our empty Prosecco bottles. Whilst this bike ride is going to be torture for us, this is nothing compared to Anne's battle. Her story is below...please, please take a minute to read it.

Anne received the devastating news on Monday 8th August 2016 that her Her2+ aggressive breast cancer has spread to her liver. She has been told by two worldwide renowned oncologists (based in London and Edinburgh) that her best chance of a good quality of what life is left is to start Kadcyla immediately. Sadly, NHS Scotland do not offer this drug which is available through NHS England and now NHS Wales. Privately this drug costs c£5,000 per session every three weeks (£90,000 p.a.).

As a wife and mother of two young boys (age 5 and 7) she will do everything in her power to be able to carry on "normal" life. This drug offers her this chance without the gruelling side affects of additional chemotherapy and radiotherapy (which she received as the initial part of her treatment over the last 2 years) with the aim of extending her life expectancy.

We are in the process of lobbying our MP's to gain access to this drug and will continue this fight for all the women in Scotland who find themselves in a similar situation. However, for Anne, she requires this drug right now as her cancer is rapidly progressing.

Anne has spent half her life working for the NHS and then for Marie Curie as a Palliative Care Nurse Specialist in Glasgow, tirelessly helping people with cancer.

She now urgently needs our help to allow her to continue her battle.
