Story

The staff at Armac vets have taken on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge in order to buy a Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

30,000 people suffer from cardiac arrests every year in the UK, this can happen at anytime, and can affect anyone, including school children.

A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.

With the use of a defibrillator, survival rates are significantly increased. Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces a victim’s survival rate by 7-10% and without immediate treatment, 90-95% of cardiac arrests prove fatal. If a defibrillator is used within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival rates jump from 6% to 74%.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres), with the aim of completing under 12 hours.
