    Story

Arthur Disney (1929 - 2016), who lived overlooking Clissold Park for many years and died in October, was a great defender of the trees in the Park, working tirelessly to protect and ensure their care. His many friends and neighbours want to come together to buy some trees to replace those which are becoming old and diseased, to ensure that Clissold Park continues to be a lovely place, enjoyed by so many visitors and residents. Christine, Arthur's wife who sadly died in 2005, was a founder member of the Clissold Park User Group (www.clissoldpark.com) which has grown from strength to strength over the last 30 years, and so all who find joy in the Park have much to thank them for. Join with us to create a lasting memorial that will continue to provide a beautiful environment for our children and our children's children.

Thanks so much to all who have contributed to this fund. With what we have collected and donations from other sources, including Clissold Park User Group, we have nearly £900! I met with Park Managers this week and they will effectively match our collection and put in FOUR trees! Two will be along Queen Elizabeth's Walk avenue, one in the Woodland area and one along Church Street, near the Paddling pool. This is a fabulous result and a great memorial to Arthur and Christine This page closes in a few days, but not too late!

Thanks to all! We are doing so well on this page and with additional contributions that we will soon be able to plant two or even really wonderful trees in the historic Clissold Park, creating a legacy for our children and grandchildren. It is wonderful that many who just love trees and know the importance of them for our environment have also contributed to this fund, and I can promise every one of them that Arthur would have been very moved and delighted about that. Thanks! Penny (aka MJP Crick)

Thanks so much to everyone who has added to this fund, through this page and by cash or cheques given to me direct which will be added to the 'Just giving' collection. Including the generous donation of £100 from the Clissold Park User group, the total now raised is £525! The cost of each tree, is higher the more established the tree is when it goes in, plus the cost of planting and maintenance to establish after planting, so if we can break the £600 barrier, it's TWO glorious trees to grace the Park! I remember Christine & Arthur very well & respected Arthur's knowledge & passion for trees. Great to help plant trees in their memory. I believe Arthur planted an oak in Clissold Park for Christine.
