Ashton Ladysmith Cricket Club are an open age English cricket team, based in the town of Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside, Greater Manchester. The club plays its home games at the Ladysmith Sports Centre on Rose Hill Road, and competes in the Greater Manchester Cricket League. The club was formerly known as Ashton St. James Cricket Club and played their games on St Albans Avenue in Ashton-under-Lyne. The club has two open age teams.
Thanks to lottery funding the club moved to a new ground on Rose Hill Road, and shortly after changed their name to Ashton Ladysmith, Ladysmith being the name of the army barracks which the ground is now situated.
In October 2007 Ashton Ladysmith's clubhouse was set on fire and burned down in an act of vandalism. Thanks to the work undertaken by its members the clubhouse was re-generated thanks to various funds.
In September 2010, the club was awarded a £600 grant for new equipment and coaching expenses, as part of a scheme to reduce anti-social behaviour.
Every year it cost us a lot to run the cricket with updating our equipment and facilities. This year we are looking to purchase a new lawn mower to be able to produce wickets to the standard of the cricket we play. Right now we have a lawn mower but in the past couple of years we have had both minor and major failures and it has cost us to get the mower running again. Also our nets have deteriorated over the years in use and we need to replace them to continue the standard of cricket players.
As a local community cricket club, we clearly need a lawn mower to care for our cricket pitch and new nets to improve our game, our aim is to start a fundraising campaign to purchase a new mower and cricket nets, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

About the fundraiser

I'm the club secretary of the Ashton Ladysmith CC. I care and support this team as I've seen the ups and downs throughout the years. Improving the facilities at the club will attract new players and better pitch facilities.
