    Story

The BYA Awards (Black Youth Achievements) is an annual celebratory event that recognises and rewards the success stories and achievements made by young people in our community.

These achievements are typically overlooked due to to the negative stereotyping & stigmatisation of black youths in society. We aim to be a vehicle of change. Becoming a voice that is not afraid to challenge negative perceptions and stereotypes.
Our mission is to create a foundation of youth leadership and role models who will break down social barriers and lead the way for future generations to aspire, excel and achieve.

Now in our 6th year, we have to date celebrated the personal accomplishments of over 300 finalists and shared this success with over 250,000 people worldwide through the event, newsletters, media and social media.

Our very own Youth Committee has helped in the process of organising the event through the promotion at Hackney Carnival, raising awareness through multiple radio shows e.g. East London Radio show & Supreme FM, participating in the finalist judging sessions, liaising with sponsors and VIPS and playing an instrumental part in bringing the event together which will also include working the event on the day.
This has all been a really great experience and created lots of opportunities for further work and career progression.

Being part of the BYA Awards has given many of us the chance to work on something really positive and be able to enjoy having a role of responsibility that allows us to shape and direct a really important and valuable event.

The BYA Awards is a not-for-profit event founded by Kay Oldroyd in 2008. Each year Kay and volunteers work really hard to deliver something spectacular and raise the money needed through sponsorship and fundraising.

We do hope that you can play a part in this too! Your donation will go towards a night of inspiration, success, youth empowerment and raising ambitions.

    Thank you for supporting!
