Story
As many of you will know, Archie suffers from Hereditary Pancreatitis.
The family spent a total of 2 month, last year in the Great North Children's Hospital, where many different teams were involved due to the rareness and complications of this condition in a young child.
Last year, he suffered horrendous attacks, including the growth of a huge pseudocyst that was crushing his other organs.
During this time, Archie was fed via a PICC line and when a decision was made he had a laparotomy to go through his stomach, attach the cyst to his stomach and internally drain the cyst.
For the family, words can't even describe the helpless feeling of seeing your child deteriorate in front of you, paired with knowing there is no treatment, except an operation which has not performed on someone so young in the UK and that the funding is not available.
His consultants have been working hard behind the scenes and making contact with teams from America to discuss a forward plan and they have agreed when necessary, that Archie is suitable for a Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplantation (TPIAT) and the trust have agreed the funding.
Archie has recently suffered another flare up meaning the family have been back at Newcastle since the 20th November.
As a team we aim to raise money to help support the family during this time, supporting side charities such as Crawford House which provides support to families of sick children being treated at Royal Victoria Infirmary, giving them somewhere to stay just minutes from their seriously ill child’s hospital bedside.
