Story
Sadly the international media seem to be down-playing this, but Hurricane Matthew has completely destroyed the heart of Baracoa, in the province of Guantanamo, Cuba. A huge number of houses have perished completely. Most of those that haven't have been reduced to shells, with the roofs and windows gone, hence all the household furniture and goods inside have perished too. October is also one of the rainiest months in Baracoa, so multitudes are now left destitute without even any shelter. I consider Baracoa to be my home town, even though I was not born nor raised there, and I have very strong ties with its residents. First hand accounts from people out there suggest that the situation is much more serious than any picture can paint. Despite this, not much help is currently reaching this place. I am endeavouring to raise funds to help the poor folks of Baracoa by providing a means for them to get roofs and windows in their houses, stoves to cook their basic meals on etc. Please lets help these humble people of Baracoa survive these horrid times. Any help will be much appreciated.

8 years agoViva Pakistán!!!!! A ship carrying food, mainly rice, and other essentials for the victims of hurricane Matthew just arrived in Baracoa. From so far away and one of very few to arrive - well done Pakistan! A ship also arrived from Venezuela and one from Panama. But where are all the other flags? 😒😒 still a pressing need for roofs and construction material. A zillion thanks to all who have contributed so far, but still a long way to go before everyone in desperate need gets some help. Let's unite for the humble population of Baracoa in Cuba

8 years agoThank you for the overwhelming support so far. The situation in Baracoa is critical. Multitudes of people either have lost their entire homes with all their belongings inside, and most of the remaining houses are without roofs. Most people are therefore without shelter. There is still no electricity and very little food, people are surviving on portions of rice! Cuba is in the hurricane belt and has been hit with hurricanes previously but even the oldest generations of Cubans have ever seen such destruction in Baracoa before. Please help!
