Story
A bunch of us last year raised money for a good cause by rolling around on the floor :-)
You can read about it here>>>>> http://www.digthenewbreed.com/?p=66
It was great and now we are going to do it again!! This time we're raising money for a public accessible Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
These are also known as Public Access Defibrillators (PAD).
PADs are proven to save lives and are part of a national initiative whereby untrained members of the community can be guided in emergency situations.
Once purchased, we are going to work with South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to get the PAD registered and ensure that it is available to the public.
Why do we care?
Well where we train, there are some cool people who have family members that have heart issues. They made us aware of it. Then after looking into it further, we learnt about how vital this equipment is.
Clinical studies suggest you have less than 5 minutes from the event to save the life, this decreasing by up to 23% per minute. So Public Access Defibrillators have a very important part to play in helping save lives in all communities. Think about it
In an urban area such as Brighton and Hove where we have a huge cross section of people. Sudden Cardiac Arrest can happen to anyone at any time, and is not age related. Try timing yourself from your nearest Ambulance station.
The starting price is a minimum of £1000+VAT. However we want the PAD to be available 24/7 which means that we would like to raise as much as possible so that in can be installed securely with a key code access. Additionally you'd be surprised in the number of AED variants there are. As such we'd like enough funding to ensure that the equipment will last.
Any funds raised beyond the actual cost of the unit will go to funding training and ongoing maintenance.
This is a community project and we would really appreciate your support.

7 years agoI'm closing the funding now as with off line donations we have raised just under £1600. The defib is on order and I will be ordering the cabinet and arranging it's installation etc!! Thanks everyone, I'll provide a more detailed update and try to get some press/PR stuff going once it's all set up :-)
