On Friday 3rd November, Amy Brogan, Kirsten Bradbury, Tony Brearley, Matt Baer and Gemma Lindley will each be completing a tandem skydive from 13,000 feet to raise money to build borewells in the Gambia.
On CBRE GWS Procurement team completed a 42km challenge in the Lake District alongside our key suppliers and sponsors Principle Cleaning, Reconomy, WP Group, Planteria to support the same cause and helping us to reach over £6k in donations so far!
Gemma Lindley, CBRE Supplier Engagement Director, visited The Gambia in March this year alongside our supplier partner Waste to Wonder. Waste to Wonder are a social enterprise organisation that have helped CBRE and our clients donate waste furniture to charities and schools globally.
We had the opportunity to visit a number of local villages where some of the furniture donated had been used to generate funds to install a borewell. The well provided the entire village with a clean and safe water supply. I was really moved by how much this had transformed village life. The women explained how the borewell had enabled them to grow their own food, grow surplus food that they could now sell, give their children fresh safe water at any time and save them hours of walking each day. The gentleman and the little girl in the pictures below are from two such villages. There was singing and dancing and their joy was infectious, quite an overwhelming reminder of how lucky we are.
Over 2 billion people around the world still do not have access to clean and safe drinking water and women and children are often most impacted, with them on average walking 6km a day (42km a week) for water. Recognising the distance people in The Gambia need to walk each day for water, we have organised a 42km charity walk to raise funds. £2,000 can build a borewell to access clean, safe water below ground level, with a solar powered pump it can provide an entire village with a constant and sustainable supply.
