    Story

On January 21st the newly formed Cardiff Sisters of Solidarity organised the Sister March in Cardiff to show Solidarity with the women who Marched in Washington against Trump's inauguration, in an effort to protect women's rights. We attracted between 700-1000 protestors, and approx 150 attended our after party event. The Campaign consisted of a banner-making workshop, the demonstration itself and a Post-March After Party which brought the community together and showcased local spoken word and performance artists. We managed to organise all of this on a shoe string with the help and assistance of local community groups, artists, activists and people who were passionate about the cause.

We are now in the process of organising a fun, family-friendly Carnival of Resistance, however we are facing some resistance when it comes to obtaining a venue and a PA system for the event. The last event was organised on the good will of people, however, we can't expect people to provide things for free, especially in the current economic climate. We want to redistribute the funds to support our local artists, community projects and volunteers and therefore need to secure funds in order to make the Carnival of Resistance accessible and a true celebration of diversity here in Cardiff. Other costs include publicity materials, placard making materials, food etc. If anything that is left over we will conserve for the next event. We are entirely not-for-profit, and will publish all of our costs on our group page in order to demonstrate transparency. If you can just manage a couple of quid, that would be so awesome and you can help the Sisters of Solidarity throw the best carnival Cardiff in rainy March has ever seen!
