Story
As you all know, Ana, Jess and I travelled Southeast Asia this summer!
As part of our trip, we volunteered and tried to give back to people in the communities around us in any way that we could.
Our first experience started in Malaysia when we came across CSO school for refugee children. There's around 200 children across 5 different schools in Kuala Lumpur, all from families fleeing discrimination, violence and a lack of basic human rights in their home country of Myanmar. The schools are run by full time volunteers, some of who are also refugees from the same crisis. They receive an allowance of £15 per month. We met with one of the teachers, Tawk Lian Sang who lived in the school and taught everyday as a refugee volunteer. His passion for education and the children was absolutely inspiring. The stories of his past were heartbreaking and both the students and teachers have been through unimaginable struggles and hardships.
The school is funded by one organisation, however with rent and other bills it's simply not enough, and the school faces threats of closure which could mean the end to these children's education.
Due to a leaking pipe, the water bill last month was exceptionally high. We'd like to raise money to help pay for this bill in particular as well as supporting the other monthly costs and a little bit extra for the school and children themselves.
Any amount is good enough. By helping with the bills, Tawk and the other teachers can fully focus on providing these children with the best education that they can give. Education is the most important thing we can give to any child, especially those facing crisis and those who lack these basic opportunities.
Thank you :)
