1st first of October 2010 I took a forward step and invited Calvin to communicate via Twitters private messaging service.
I said “I only have 20% battery left, would you like to spend it with me?” Kinda crass but he said “Yes”
That 20% lasted exponentially longer than was possible, chatting easily with someone I never thought I would meet, someone who had the same life ethos, music tastes and was quickly becoming the only person I wanted to spend my cyber time with. We exchanged email addresses and our contact continued in that manner for some months as we toyed with possible futures and memorable pasts.
Calvin is a story teller. His stories are of his life experiences, wisdom and of dreams he holds achievable. As a quadriplegic 47 year old man at that time, he had already suffered many life threatening accidents, incredible situations including kidnap, gunshot wounds and other 'Bond-like' tales despite which he was in no way bitter, revengeful nor hateful, how he managed not to be so, became clearer by the day.
“Time is precious” Calvin would say. People do not realise it a commodity that only lasts until the next breath.
The 'ports' that Calvin and I visited during our 'Cyber Years' built a strong relationship which had progressed to daily Skype calls up to 8 hours at a time, as time zones allowed.
On more than 1 occasion waking up to a sleeping Man on my screen or he waking up to watch me sleep on his screen. All that was missing was a touch, a kiss, a breath on each others skin.
We had to meet, we had to know if this love of ours could survive in real life's daily situations. Could it survive the discrimination and prejudices of those who could not comprehend why I would go to Colorado, USA to be with a man who was, essentially, bedridden.
I now find myself 4 years later kept away from my now husband by US Immigration.
I need £6000 for Lawyers to appeal my case at the US embassy.
Calvin is presently in hospital, let me be with my life love soon xo
