Story

Pink Week was started by Nina Rauch at her school in celebration of her mother Dina Rabinovitch—a journalist and breast cancer activist—who passed away of breast cancer. Nina brought Pink Week to Cambridge in 2014. Ten years later, Pink Week is stronger than ever, and even more passionate about raising awareness of and life-saving funds for breast cancer.

This week is very important for many people around Cambridge, as it is also an opportunity for celebration and remembrance of those who fight and have fought in our own community. Despite being one of the most common cancers—1 out of 8 women will fight breast cancer in their lives—it is also one of the most stigmatised.

Since then, Cambridge Pink Week has raised over £100,000 for charities around the UK and is one of the university’s biggest student societies, having a dedicated ‘Pink Week’ that runs during the first week in February each year. We aim to spread potentially life-saving knowledge among young people to instils crucial check-yourself habits from as young as possible, while making it clear that this disease is indiscriminate, affecting all ages, genders and races.

This year, our charities are:
Breast Cancer Now
Black Women Rising
Future Dreams
Maggie’s

Every pound matters, so no matter how small the donation, we would be so grateful. Cancer is something that has touched so many lives, and with your donations, we will make a difference.
