Our beautiful boy Charlie is 2, he is a smiley cheeky chappy, loveable and determined which is just as well because Charlie faces big challenges and changes for the rest of his life. Charlie, along with his twin sister Poppy were born at 30 weeks and spent much of the first year of his life in and out of hospital with various health issues. Finally at 18 months he appeared to be on the up, spending less time in hospital and was on the verge of learning to walk. This all changed October 17th 2016. Charlie woke that morning in considerable distress, reluctant to crawl or put any weight on his legs. He was taken to hospital where an MRI confirmed the worst and changed our lives forever. Charlie had a swelling on his spine caused by a rare Arteriovenus Malformation (AVM) which had led to his spinal cord becoming damaged resulting in paralysis from the waist down. Charlie was immediately transferred to Great Ormond Street given the rarity of his condition and he remained there for 4 weeks.
Charlies' needs are ongoing, so physiotherapy and equipment will be key in giving him the best possible chance at a normal life. NHS physio has already gone from 3 times a week to once a fortnight and this will then stop altogether. Much of the equipment we need including a lightweight self propelling wheelchair and hand powered bike cannot be provided by the NHS, so we therefore need to raise funds for equipment like this, as well as further private physio and hydrotherapy to try and give Charlie the same quality of life and opportunities as his twin and older sister. This will also help his little body have the best chance of any recovery in the future. Charlie has been wonderful at adapting without the use of his little legs, but frustration is clearly setting in especially seeing his twin Poppy doing things he cannot. This is why we need your help and support to open up a world of potential and possibilities for him. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and support us

Thanks to everyone for the support over the recent weeks, its been an amazing response. Thanks to peoples generosity we have been able to buy Charlie his Scoot, arranged for modifications in the home to make it more accessible, started physio with Neurokinex in Crawley and had discussions with wheelchair services over his wheelchair needs. You can continue to follow Charlies progress and details of future fundraisers at our new facebook page\charliedavidfielding thank you again to everyone. You have really made a difference

One of the new mobility devices the crowdfund has secured for Charlie. This Firefly Scoot is just amazing. It is helping him get round the home and will be invaluable for when he goes to nursery. On this occasion we let him loose outside. He had it a week at this point and has already nailed it! cant wait until he gets a proper wheelchair to start developing his skills. A future Paralympian i think!

Today has been a big day for sharing our story of Charlie and our fundraising. Our story was picked up by the Press Association and subsequently the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror have both ran the story today. & we still can't believe the interest which has been shown, it really is incredible and Charlie is lucky to have so much support from so many people
