Christmas Fit Club started as a way to make sure I lost a few pounds ahead of the busy Christmas period of overindulging on mince pies, chocolate, and generally all things delicious. I extended the invite to a few colleagues and, having avoided the slaps that such an invite warranted, we started weighing in each week to make sure we'd all be ready to tuck into a guilt-free Christmas. We even paid a pound each week to join in. So whilst we were losing pounds (the belly ones) we were also gaining pounds (the money ones) – clever, right!? Then, come Christmas, we took those money pounds and bought tins of food for local foodbanks and hopefully Christmas was a little better not just for us but for others too.
A year later we doubled our total and now I hope to double it again so this year I’m nudging not just colleagues but you too. Yes, you. So please, if you can, make a contribution. Then, if you would like to, consider also setting a personal weight loss goal* and add it to this page (or message me privately, or keep it to yourself); and for anyone that meets their goal by 16th December I’ll match their contribution.
Foodbanks across the country provide vital services - not just by making available emergency food parcels when crises arise but by helping those in need to understand and deal with the core problems that result in crisis. Whilst many food banks support the local homeless increasingly those on low incomes or families whose benefits have been changed or delayed are relying on three-day food parcels to see them through difficult periods. More than ever foodbanks offer a lifeline to those that need it most, especially in winter when needs rise even higher.
Donations will be used to buy non-perishables and donated to foodbanks in Corby, Kettering, and (I am hoping) Hinckley and Leicester also.
*Please be safe and sensible; if your BMI is healthy consider targeting “staying the same”, if it is low consider whether a weight gain target may be healthy.
