    Story

When I was out in Bangladesh, my heart was moved by a number of children with severe disabilities who would have better prospects if they had the same resources as children in a country like the UK. CRP did a great job at caring for these children but as disability is huge in the country there is still so much work to be done. After many discussions about what would be of benefit most to children, one of my colleagues shared that he was planning to open a school for disabled children therefore enabling those with disabilities to have a better future. From working at CRP and seeing the numerous staff that had received treatment and then gone on to work within the organisation, it was inspiring to see how much of a difference it made to their lives. Although it was heart breaking to see very poor children or those in difficult situations I realised that handing individuals money was not the answer, giving money to CRP or helping build a school that will help the children in the long run would be better. Hence, I decided that I would help him fundraise to make his dream a reality and also donate half the funds directly to crp.

His plan is to build a school in a rural (poorer) area of the country for children with disabilities. He has inherited some land from his family and has already started preparing the land for building(as you can observe from the above photo). The plan is to finish building by March to tie in with school registration so hopefully there will be enough funding to build the school by then. The school will predominantly be for disabled girls, as disabled children, particularly girls, can become neglected in society. Without appropriate care, assistive devices and education children with disabilities can become a burden to families if they aren't able to work. Ideally the girls will be offered education for free and the boys with the minimum charge possible with the initial focus being on general education, physiotherapy and orthotic devices.
