Story
During my Gap Year in Malawi I had the pleasure to meet Thom Symon who has single handedly built a school to provide basic education for the young people in his village and surrounding area. Thom is a talented artist and uses funds from selling his work to support the school.
Thom tried to dig a well but, because he couldn't dig it deep enough, it has since dried up meaning the school has no water and the villagers have to carry water from the lake, which is contaminated and not suitable for drinking.
I want to raise enough funds to be able to employ a company to dig a deep well which will be guaranteed to serve the community for life with fresh water.
I have secured a quote from a reputable company and require £4000. The company employs Malawian labour so the project will therefore also create jobs and income for some of the local people.
Thom is an inspiring man. I was overwhelmed with his generosity of time, energy, dedication and spirit, often in extremely difficult circumstances and I would like to help secure the future of his village and school by providing them with one of our most basic needs - fresh water.
I would really appreciate your support with this project.

8 years agoAmazing heartfelt thank you to Darlington Rotary Club for their awesome donation of £1000! This will go a long way to making the dream of a well at Thom's school a.reality. The gift of fresh water is something that we so take for granted-something we don't consider a gift but a right. We have the power to make it a never forgotten gift. Can we raise the £4000 target in time to make it a Christmas gift? Please help by sharing this post withnyour friends and family. Thank you!
