Story
Our organisation, the Afro-Brazilian Arts & Cultural Exchange Institute, Charity No 1157115, delivers projects with Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian Martial Art that combines kicks, music, dance, movement and acrobatics, as the vehicle of education and the inspiration for children and young people in London. Our projects aim to support children and young people to develop their skills in order to have a better chance to integrate in the community and a better future; as a result of our activities we are aiming to reach our outcome of building stronger relationships within the community and break barriers among members of the community coming from different backgrounds and cultures, facilitating their social inclusion and keeping young people out of the streets, away from drug abuse and gang formation and to guide them towards their educational development and job acquisition. Our projects aim to increase participation in Sport of disadvantaged children ages 4-12 and young people ages 13 to 25, by providing free and low-cost classes. The beneficiaries of our project are children and young people from BAME groups, low income, recent immigrants, English not their first language and children that are at risk of social exclusion. Every year we organise a big international festival with guests from around the globe. In that festival, called ‘Cultural Exchange’, our project participants have the change to get their well-deserved belts and certificates of project completion. The organisation of the event is quite expensive because we bring Mestres from Brazil, the US and Europe to run the workshops. In order to have enough money to organise it, we need to raise £2000. We are asking the members of the public for help to raise the money for the event, so we can celebrate the hard work of the children, young people and all the students.
