Story
After being paralysed in 1987 following a rugby accident Darren Gough is in desperate need of some disabled facilities in his home. Darren lives in his parents’ house and relies on the help of his elderly parents to undertake daily activities such as bathing. His bedroom and the bathroom are upstairs therefore he has to ‘bump’ up and down the stairs on his bottom and crawl to his bedroom. Darren has coped with this for years but since getting older it’s becoming increasingly difficult attempting the stairs.
For washing and bathing Darren has to use a seat box and requires assistance from his mum.
To improve Darren’s quality of life he needs a ground floor bedroom and wet room, so that he can shower independently. Mid Sussex District Council have refused a grant for Darren’s much needed extension due to the savings he has worked hard to set aside for his future health care.
Darren is an extremely hard working and positive individual who has coped incredibly well with his disability. He has never asked the council for anything until now, but they have seriously let him down.
An extension will give Darren his independence back by being able to do everything by himself rather than rely on his mum.
Please donate anything you can however small. Every £1 adds up. THANK YOU! Your support is enormously appreciated.
