Story
The church has raised £100,000 for essential repair to the stonework of the steeple. This included generous grants from village charities, for which we are very grateful.
The work has gone very well, and will be finished by Christmas. The scaffolding is due to come down in January.
The Parish Council are paying for the clock faces to be refurbished while the scaffolding is up.
However, there are three items remaining which we would love to do while the scaffolding is up, but for which we have no more funds in the budget.
• Replacing two very worn stone figures with a pair of new carvings representing Ron Piggott and the steeple whose repairs he championed as his final project before his recent death. (Cost £2930)
• Replacing two very worn griffins with new carvings (Cost £2700)
• Completing the general stonework repairs just below the bell tower, which will be inaccessible once the scaffolding is taken down. (Cost £3370)
The total sum required is £9000. We need the money by NOVEMBER 30 if these items are to get the go-ahead.
We are appealing to the people of Datchet to contribute to something which we believe is of great heritage importance to our village, and in memory of Ron.
If every adult in Datchet gave £3, we would achieve the goal.
Thank you.

7 years agoThank you very much indeed to all who contributed. It is very much appreciated. Still about £2000 short, but we are trying one or two last ideas to see if we can commission all the work.
