Story
Two Rochester airport-based pilots plan to fly to every airfield in Southern England that was operational on D-Day to raise money for a Kent-based Veterans’ Charity and to showcase the work of aviation museums. Pilots Chris Lent and Rob Stark will take their two-seat Zenair CH601 Zodiac (G-ZODY) into the skies to commemorate the thousands of RAF and USAAF aircrew who risked (and lost) their lives in support of the greatest combined miliary operation in history to rid the world of Nazi tyranny.
In just one day, their route will take them to ten airfields, flying from east Kent to west Somerset. “With the 80th anniversary of D-Day coming up, Rob and I wanted to do something positive to remember the courage and sacrifice made on that day.” said Chris.
The pair want to raise funds in support of the Veteran Operating Base, a Kent-based non-profit charity run by and for veterans. “We wanted to do something positive for veterans of more recent conflicts, who sadly often do not get the support they need when transitioning to civilian life.”
