    Story

Today ( Oct 23rd) would have been my sister's 32nd birthday. She died 6 years ago when she stopped breathing during an epileptic fit. They called it SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy)

Recently, our 3 year old son Dexter was Diagnosed with epilepsy.
Of all the fits that he has had, half of them have been during his sleep.

He currently co sleeps with us in the hope that his fits will wake us. We have been very lucky that this has been the case so far.

One of the factors that increases the risk of SUDEP in epilepsy sufferers is when the epilepsy begins at an early age. Another is if the seizures happen at night.

We would like to raise money to be able to buy him a bed sensor that it would alert us to his fits and enable him to sleep in his own bed. We would also like to invest in an anti suffocation pillow so that he will still be able to breath should another sleep seizure happen.

Should any money be left over, it will be donated to Sudep Action

Your help in this would be eternally appreciated.

It doesn't let me leave very long messages on here but I wanted to add that we would not be able to purchase anything like this for him without all of your help in spreading the word and for all of your donations. We all thank you so very much. and we hope to update you soon with whatever it is we purchase. One day, hopefully soon, we will all be able to get a decent nights sleep without constantly worrying. You can't put a price on that xxx

Today we met with D's Epilepsy Dr. We spoke to him about getting a bed sensor and he was very helpful. He said that he isnt allowed recommend a particular one but has found from personal experience that they aren't very reliable so they actually make many parents more anxious than reassured. On his recommendation, we have decided to get him a good quality video monitor. It is the sound Dexter makes that wakes us when he fits so we are looking for one with good audio and will still get a bed sensor if we have enough for both. Thank you
