Story
On the 15/7/24, I will be taking on a 24 hour,15 peak Challenge.I will be undertaking this huge Challenge in order to try and raise money for a ECMO machine costing £120,000 saving hundreds of lives. ECMO is used before or after a heart and/or lung transplant. The ECMO is a form of life support for people with a life-threatening illness or injury that affects the function of their heart or lungs. ECMO keeps blood moving through the body and keeps blood gasses (oxygen and carbon dioxide) in balance.
ECMO does not treat lung or heart failure, but does the jobs of the heart and lungs temporarily ― allowing them to “rest.”The machine pumps the blood, provides it with oxygen and helps the body get rid of carbon dioxide.
People who know me personally will know that sadly my nephew, Louis O'Brien Smith age 21 has suffered and battled his entire life! From just 16weeks old Louis was diagnosed with meningitis, to then surviving an extremely aggressive leukaemia twice and also having bone marrow transplant. Now unfortunately in need of a heart transplant and is currently on the urgent heart transplant list rendering the whole family helpless to say the least. So by raising this money i hope I can give him and hundreds of others in his situation a better chance at life.
All funds raised will be donated to the QE Birmingham hospital where Louis will receive his heart transplant.
The hospital have stated to the family that they are in need of more Ecmo machines and each machine will help save hundreds of lives.
The challenge itself is a continuous hike which tackles every mountain in Wales with a height of over 3,000ft.
I'll be attempting to complete this challenge in under 24 Hours (peak to peak) walking continuously for around 21 hours throughout the day & night (plus another 5hours to and from the vehicle)
Thank you ever so much for taking the time to read my post. Any donations are greatly appreciated no matter how big or small🙏🏻❤️ #ECMO #TRANSPLANT #KINGLOUIS
