Elaina was diagnosed with epilepsy at four months old, she was seizure free for six months but then things got worse! At 10 months old Elaina had a really long seizure and ended up being intubated and ventilated and in intensive care. Elaina made a full recovery thankfully and came home after a week. However her seizures continued to happen once a month. They were always long and always resulted in hospitalisation. Earlier in 2016, still no cause or cure had been found and medications had to be changed and sadly her seizures became more frequent. From June to August 2016 Elaina had many seizures, one resulting in being airlifted from her holiday and four more needing intubation and PICU admission. On 12th August 2016 at 11.40 am, Elaina had the seizure that resulted in the fourth lot of intubation in 8 weeks, during which, her heart stopped for 8 minutes. Elaina now has severe brain damage, but she is beating the odds thanks to doctors, nurses and a whole lot of self determination!
